The Whitewall Tire Answer!! Although many kits now come
with styrene whitewall inserts for their vinyl tires, most don't. To
change a blackwall to a whitewall meant either a thick vinyl sticker that
did not conform well to shape of the tire, or some way to mask off the
tire in order to paint on the whitewall. Usable stickers are hard to find
and making a perfect circle for a mask is very difficult. UNTIL NOW!! We
now have "The Whitewall Answer"!! These are a series of super
thin white vinyl stickers that are made for specific tires and fit the
shape of the tire much better than previous stickers. They go right up
against the sidewall bead for a sharp mid fifties to early sixties wide
whitewall. For those who prefer to paint, the same sheet offers a
tire specific whitewall mask that includes the sidewall bead for a early
50's to early 60's wide whitewall. The picture at left shows the sticker
(upper right tire); the masking with regular masking tape added to protect
the tread (lower left tire); and a tire that has been masked and painted
with Tamiya white primer (lower right). Each set makes 8 whitewalls- 4
stickers and 4 masks per set. Please note that the sets for the tires
listed are for the most common stock tires used in specific kits.
